The Burden Bearer

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Isaiah 9:6
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

"The government shall be upon His shoulders." What a powerful image! Jesus can bear the weight that would crush us. Financial pressures, health crises, relational conflicts, grief, fear—He invites us to transfer these burdens to His capable shoulders.

Notice Jesus doesn't say, "Come to me and I'll erase all your problems." He says, "Come to me and I will give you rest." He promises His presence and strength to help you carry what must be carried. He replaces loneliness with presence, worry with peace, dread with faith.

The Christmas season can feel unbearably heavy with expectations, memories, and losses. Yet the child born in Bethlehem grew into the man who said, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light." Not because life becomes easy, but because we're no longer carrying it alone.

Reflection: What specific burden will you consciously place on Jesus's shoulders today?
