Faith When Everything Falls

Job 13:13-19
13 “Keep silent and let me speak; then let come to me what may.
14 Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take my life in my hands?
15 Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.
16 Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless person would dare come before him!
17 Listen carefully to what I say; let my words ring in your ears.
18 Now that I have prepared my case, I know I will be vindicated.
19 Can anyone bring charges against me? If so, I will be silent and die.

Job 42:10-17
10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11 All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring. 12 The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. 13 And he also had seven sons and three daughters. 14 The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. 15 Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers. 1After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. 17 And so Job died, an old man and full of years.

Job's declaration—"Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him"—represents faith at its purest. When everything was stripped away, Job had nothing left but confidence in God's character. This is the faith that moves heaven: not faith in your circumstances improving, but faith in who God is regardless of circumstances. God doesn't need your abundance to work miracles; He specializes in using what remains after the storm. Job's restoration came not because he had much left, but because what he had left—his unwavering trust—was enough for God to multiply. Today, inventory what remains: a whisper of hope, a fragment of faith, a willingness to believe. That's sufficient.
