Preparing for Rain

Zechariah 10:1 (NLT)
"Ask the Lord for rain in the spring, for he makes the storm clouds. And he will send showers of rain so every field becomes a lush pasture."

John 12:23-26 (NLT)
"Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me."

Zechariah encourages us to ask for rain in the springtime - a season when rain is expected. This teaches us to remain dependent on God even in times of blessing. It also reminds us to prepare our hearts for God's outpouring. How can you "prepare the soil" of your heart today? Perhaps it's through confession, forgiveness, or recommitting to spiritual disciplines. As you prepare, do so with patient expectation, knowing that God will send the rain of His Spirit in His perfect timing.
