Preparing the Ground

Feb 22, 2026    Rodney Pavie

This powerful message takes us deep into the Parable of the Sower from Matthew 13, but with a refreshing twist. Instead of focusing on the seed or the sower, we're challenged to examine the soil—our hearts. The central truth is profound yet simple: the harvest of our lives is determined by the condition of our soil. God's Word is good seed, always reliable and true, but the question becomes: what kind of ground are we offering? Are we distracted hearts where the enemy snatches away truth before it takes root? Are we shallow hearts with rocky ground, looking strong on the surface but lacking the depth to withstand storms? Are we crowded hearts where the thorns of bitterness, unforgiveness, and worldly pursuits slowly choke out spiritual growth? Or are we prepared hearts, fertile soil ready to produce thirty, sixty, or even a hundredfold harvest? The message doesn't leave us hopeless—it offers practical steps for soil preparation: prayer, repentance, forgiveness, surrender, and worship. We're reminded that we don't need new seed or different circumstances; we need to open the gate and let the Farmer plow our fields, even when it's uncomfortable. The call is clear: before we pray for harvest, we must pray for good soil.
