The Price That Was Paid

Isaiah 53:4-6
4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God,
    stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

1 Peter 1:18-19
18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

Devotional: Freedom is never free—someone always pays the price. Before we experienced spiritual liberty, Jesus paid with His life. Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would be "wounded for our transgressions" and "bruised for our iniquities." Peter reminds us we weren't redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. Today, reflect on the magnitude of what was sacrificed for your freedom. Jesus didn't die because you were worthy on your own merit, but because He deemed you worth the ultimate price. His love transformed duty into devotion, keeping Him on the cross when He could have walked away. How does understanding this price change how you view your value to God?

Reflection Question: What chains in your life remind you that freedom cost Jesus everything?
