Rejoice In Every Season

Reading:  Philippians 4:4-7
4  Rejoice in the Lord always.  Again I will say, rejoice!
5  Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Devotional: Joy is not the same as happiness. Happiness rises and falls with circumstances, but joy is anchored in a relationship with Jesus Christ that no circumstance can dissolve. Paul wrote these words from a Roman prison, chained and confined, and yet he commanded believers to rejoice -- not once, but twice in the same breath. That repetition is not accidental. It is an insistence. When your world is disordered, when your emotions feel unsteady, and when the ground beneath you seems uncertain, the act of rejoicing is not a denial of your pain. It is a declaration that God is still working, still present, and still worthy. Choose rejoicing today not because everything is fine, but because he is faithful.

Reflection: In what area of your life is rejoicing most difficult right now? What would it look like to offer God praise in that specific place today?
