Uprooting the Poisonous Thorns

Matthew 13:22 (NLT)
22 The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced.

Hebrews 12:14 – 15 (NLT)
14 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. 15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

Thorns don't explode into our lives; they wrap around slowly, strangling the good things God is trying to grow. Jesus identified these thorns as "the worries of this life and the lure of wealth." The writer of Hebrews warns about "a poisonous root of bitterness" that troubles us and corrupts many. What's wrapping around your spiritual life? Bitterness toward someone who hurt you? Offense you're nurturing? Ambition without surrender? Greed disguised as provision? These thorns don't kill overnight—they slowly squeeze the life out of your walk with God. The tragedy is you can still look like a Christian while being spiritually strangled. Today, identify the thorns. Name them. Then cut them off through repentance, forgiveness, and surrender before it's too late.
