Guarding the Mind

Reading:  Romans 12:1-2
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Devotional: The battlefield of anxiety is most often the mind. What we consume, what we dwell on, and what we allow to occupy our thoughts shapes the interior landscape of our lives far more than we realize. Paul understood this long before the age of the twenty-four-hour news cycle, social media, and the constant inflow of noise that marks modern life. He instructed believers to fix their thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. This is not wishful thinking or the avoidance of reality. It is the intentional discipline of directing your attention toward what God says is true rather than what fear insists is inevitable. What you feed your mind will determine what grows there.

Reflection: What are the primary sources filling your mind each day? Which of them are producing anxiety, and which are producing peace? What is one practical change you can make this week?
