The Practice of Gratitude

Reading:  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray continually,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Devotional: Gratitude is not a feeling that arrives on its own. It is a discipline that must be practiced, especially in seasons when thankfulness does not come naturally. The world around us cultivates entitlement, demanding more while acknowledging less. But Scripture consistently connects thankfulness with spiritual health, mental stability, and relational wholeness. When you choose to thank God for what he has already done, even before you see what you are asking him to do, you are making a declaration of faith. You are saying that his past faithfulness is evidence enough to trust his future provision. Gratitude does not minimize your struggle. It places your struggle inside a larger story of a God who has never failed.

Reflection: Write down three specific things God has done for you in the past year. Spend time thanking him for each one before you bring him a single request today.
