You Were Not Built for Isolation

Romans 15:32 (NLT)
32 Then, by the will of God, I will be able to come to you with a joyful heart, and we will be an encouragement to each other.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NLT)
9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Devotional: God designed human beings for community. Ecclesiastes reminds us that two are better than one because when one falls, the other can help lift him up. The Apostle Paul, one of the most spiritually mature men in Scripture, openly expressed his longing to be refreshed by the company of fellow believers. There is no spiritual badge of honor in carrying your burdens alone. Isolation amplifies worry. Community diminishes it. When you are surrounded by people who love God and love you, your fears are spoken into a room that holds them with you rather than a room that echoes them back louder. Connection is not a luxury. It is a lifeline.

Reflection: Are you doing life alone by circumstance or by choice? What is one relationship or community you could invest in more intentionally?

Practical Application: Take one step this week to connect with others in your church community. Sign up for a small group, reach out to a friend you have been meaning to call, or serve alongside someone in a ministry context.
