Fix Your Eyes on What Does Not Move

Reading:
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Psalm 119:89
Your eternal word, O LORD, stands firm in heaven.

Devotional: When you are caught in a current, you cannot determine how far you have drifted by looking at the water around you, because the water is also moving. You must fix your eyes on something firmly planted on the shore. Hebrews 12:2 calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He is the immovable marker on the horizon. Psalm 119:89 reminds us that God's Word is settled forever in heaven. When culture shifts, when voices compete, when feelings fluctuate, the truth of Scripture remains the one fixed reference point against which we can measure our drift.

Reflection: What voices or cultural currents have you allowed to become louder than the truth of God's Word in your daily thinking?

Practical Application:
Choose one passage of Scripture to memorize this week. Let it serve as your fixed point of reference when the currents of opinion and culture press against you.
