The Slow Fade of Neglect

Reading:
Proverbs 24:30-34 (NLT)
I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense. I saw that it was overgrown with nettles. It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down. Then, as I looked and thought about it, I learned this lesson: A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

Devotional: Solomon paints a sobering picture in Proverbs 24. He walks past the field of a man who neglected his work, and what he finds is ruin, not from vandalism or disaster, but from a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands. The warning here is that poverty and destruction do not require dramatic choices. They require only small, repeated acts of neglect. The same principle governs our spiritual lives. Faith rarely crumbles under external attack. It is most often abandoned from within, one skipped prayer, one ignored conviction, one small compromise at a time.

Reflection: Where has "just a little" neglect taken root in your spiritual habits, relationships, or personal disciplines?

Practical Application: Take a personal inventory today. Write down one area where small neglect has accumulated into a larger problem. Bring it honestly before God in prayer.
