The Danger of Doing Nothing

Reading:
Hebrews 2:1-4 (The Message)
1-4 It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off. If the old message delivered by the angels was valid and nobody got away with anything, do you think we can risk neglecting this latest message, this magnificent salvation? First of all, it was delivered in person by the Master, then accurately passed on to us by those who heard it from him. All the while God was validating it with gifts through the Holy Spirit, all sorts of signs and miracles, as he saw fit.

Devotional: Spiritual drift rarely announces itself. It does not arrive as a dramatic rejection of faith but as a quiet loosening of your grip on truth. Hebrews 2:1 warns that unless we listen carefully to what we have heard, we will drift away from it. Notice that the danger is not active rebellion but passive neglect. Doing nothing is enough. The current of this world is always moving, and it moves against your faith. Today, ask yourself honestly: am I actively holding on, or have I simply stopped fighting the current? A firm grip requires daily, intentional effort.

Reflection: In what area of your life have you been passively drifting rather than actively holding on?

Practical Application: Identify one spiritual discipline you have allowed to lapse. Commit to restarting it today, even in a small way.
