In Everything Give Thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
Devotional: Paul's instruction to give thanks in everything is not a command to pretend that hard things are good. It is a command to maintain a posture of trust even when circumstances are painful. The will of God, according to this passage, is not primarily a destination -- it is a daily disposition of rejoicing, prayer, and thanksgiving. Gratitude is not the reward for a good life; it is the fuel for a faithful one. When we choose to give thanks in every situation, we declare that God is still sovereign, still good, and still at work. That declaration does not deny our pain -- it places our pain in the hands of the One who redeems it.
Reflection Question: What is one difficult situation in your life right now for which you have not yet thanked God, and what would it mean to trust Him enough to do so?
Practical Application: Begin a gratitude journal this week. Each evening, record three things -- however small -- for which you are genuinely thankful. Watch how this practice begins to reshape the way you see your life.
