The AntiChrist Mindset and the Cross that Corrects It

Philippians 2:3-8 (NLT)
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,
8  he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Devotional: The apostle John identifies three destructive desires that pull believers away from God: wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, and wanting to appear important. These are not merely bad habits. They represent a way of living that is the direct opposite of Christ. Jesus, who had every right to demand His own way, took on the form of a servant. He who deserved all things gave all things. He who was most important made Himself least. The cross is the ultimate correction to the antichrist mindset. When you survey what Christ gave up for you, the grip of self-centered living begins to loosen. The cross changes what you want.

Reflection: Which of the three desires — your own way, everything for yourself, or appearing important — has the strongest hold on you right now?

Practical Application: Pray the prayer of surrender today: not my will, but yours be done. Then identify one specific decision this week where you will choose God's way over your own preference.
