Be Still and Wait

Psalm 37:7 (NLT)
7 Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.
Devotional: Abraham wanted the promise so badly that he helped God along -- and the consequences of that decision echoed for generations. When we grow tired of waiting, we are tempted to manufacture our own version of the answer. But a self-made solution built out of impatience is never a substitute for a God-given promise fulfilled in His time. Resting in God is not passivity -- it is one of the most active and demanding expressions of faith available to a believer. It says, I trust you more than I trust my own ability to fix this. That kind of rest requires real courage.
Reflection: Is there an area of your life where you have been trying to help God out rather than trusting Him to act?
Practical Application: Identify one situation you have been striving to control. Deliberately release it to God today through prayer, and resist the urge to manipulate the outcome for at least the next twenty-four hours.
