Faithfulness in the Ordinary Prepares You for the Extraordinary

Reading:  Luke 16:10
10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

1 Samuel 16:11-13
11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?”
“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.”
Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.”
12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.
Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.

Devotional: When Samuel came searching for Israel's next king, David was not in the room. He was in the field tending sheep — doing what no one was watching, doing what seemed to matter least. Yet God said, that is the man. Elisha was plowing. Gideon was threshing wheat. Peter was mending nets. God consistently calls people who are already busy being faithful in small things. The platform is not where the calling begins. The calling begins in the quiet, ordinary, unglamorous work of daily obedience. What you do when no one is watching reveals the content of your character and the readiness of your heart.

Reflection: Are you serving faithfully in the small responsibilities already before you, or are you waiting for a greater opportunity before giving your best effort?

Practical Application: This week, approach your most routine responsibility — whether at work, at home, or in your church — as if God Himself were your audience. Do it with excellence and a willing heart.
