Restore the Joy

Reading:  Psalm 51:10-13
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.

Devotional: David was not asking to be saved again. He was asking for the joy that had once made his relationship with God feel alive and vibrant to be returned to him. This is a prayer that many believers need but few think to pray. It is possible to remain in a saved condition while quietly losing the delight that once marked your walk with God. Life has a way of doing that — through hardship, disappointment, routine, and the slow erosion of wonder. But David's prayer reveals something important: joy can be restored. It is not a one-time gift that, once lost, is gone forever. Ask God today to restore the joy of your salvation.

Reflection: If you are honest with yourself, would you describe your current walk with God as joyful? If not, what has quietly stolen that joy over time?

Practical Application: Pray David's prayer from Psalm 51 in your own words today. Be specific with God about what has diminished your joy and ask Him to renew it from the inside out.
