Rising to Walk in Newness of Life
Romans 6:4
4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
2 Corinthians 5:17
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
Colossians 3:1-4
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Baptism is not only about what is left behind. It is equally about what is stepped into. Paul describes believers rising from the waters to walk in newness of life. The word walk is deliberate. It implies steady, forward movement rather than a single dramatic leap. The Christian life is not a sprint. It is a daily, step-by-step journey in the direction of Christ. Second Corinthians 5:17 affirms that the old has gone and the new has come. New desires, new priorities, new direction, and a new identity are not things you earn. They are gifts you receive and then choose to live out each day.
