United With Him in His Death
Galatians 2:20
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Romans 6:5-7
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
Galatians 2:20 describes a life so transformed by Christ that the believer's former self is no longer the one living. This is not poetic exaggeration. Paul is describing a real spiritual union with Jesus that makes his death the death of our sinful nature. When Christ went to the cross, he carried not only the penalty of sin but the power it held over us. The chains were broken at Calvary. The question is whether we are walking in that freedom or still behaving as though the chains are in place. You are not who you used to be.

Application: Memorize Galatians 2:20 and recite it aloud each morning this week as a declaration of your identity in Christ.
